Young People in American Politics
(Taught Fall 2023, Summer 2022 and 2023)
In this course I designed, inspired by my research, I cover important features of the US political system with young people at the center. The course covers topics such as political socialization, identities, participation, representation, and issues that are impacting and mobilizing young people.

I have found this course to be successful because it allows students to bring in their own opinions and experiences and understand how they connect to the full system. It is also solution oriented, so students create proposals to fix many of the issues that we identify.

One of my favorite lessons in the course is exploring old college yearbooks for examples of political participation. I have worked with the university archives to have students browse through the books and think about how this form of archival research can be useful. Students love to see the continuity and changes on campus and leave with a better idea of the age and generation effects that impact political participation amongst college students today and in the past.

For their final projects, students create a proposal to increase youth participation. Students have created interesting projects that have included videos or ideas for communities that are important to them.
US Political Systems
(Instructor of Record Summer 2023; TA Fall 2019, 2020, Spring 2020, 2021)
I taught the department's intro to US political systems course in the Summer of 2023. I loved the diverse group of students I got to work with and their knowledge and experience helped us have great discussions throughout the course. I would frequently bring in my research on young people, and some lessons from my young people in American politics course to engage the students with how they see themselves and their generation in the system.

I have also been a teaching assistant for this course four times which has helped me experience different ways of teaching the content, engaging with students, and grading assignments.
